Pest Control Technician
Job Description
Reports To: Managing Director
Function and specific responsibilities:
It is within the Trainee’s scope to train under a Qualified technician - Technicians Work Group and be :
- supervised for the Pestaway specified period and/or
- until such time that proficiency is validated under the DHS Guidelines
On validation of the extent of the training completed the trainee then, with the approval of Management, can work unsupervised.
The responsibilities and duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Providing a professional and efficient service on behalf of Pestaway at all times.
- Providing total loyalty to the company at all times.
- Manage Pest Control for domestic, commercial and industrial customers, as outlined on Technicians daily job sheets service registers and specific Work Instructions
- Carrying out Pest Control treatments for all pests as identified and specified in areas endorsed on the Licensed Technicians licence
- Representing Pestaway in a professional manner at all times
- Being courteous to all customers at all times
- Being flexible in the way you work.
- Carrying out all company Polices, Procedures and Work Instructions at all times
Participating in company and DHS Training Programs for the purpose of gaining and retaining the pest control licence and knowledge to:- To effectively eradicate pests in a safe and cost-efficient way
- Carry out task safely
- Handle, store, use, contain and dispose of chemicals in a safe manner
- maintain equipment in a good working order as provided by the company
- Wear the protective clothing provided for the task
- Carry out assessments of vehicle, substances, stocks, environment and customer site
- Record all information required as set down within company documents
- Ensure all company policies are upheld,
- to read, understand and keep up to date with the company Policies, Procedures and instructions
- Report all incidents immediately for prevention management
- carry out inspections and quotations of premises as authorised by Managing Director
- Training of trainee Technicians when and if required
AUTHORITY:
The holder of this position has the authority to:- Work within the function and specific responsibilities set down within this Job Description

To carry out Inspection, identification, treatment and eradication of household, commercial, and industrial pests that may include but are not limited to: :
Ants, Spiders, Rats and Mice, Silverfish, Fleas, Birds, Earwigs, Stored Product Pests, Millipedes, Termites, Possums, Bees & Wasps

Provide a quality service for your client at all tomes :
- Employee is to provide an effective pest management program for customer sites
- Employee is to attend pest control technicians courses and seminars as authorised by Managing Director.
- Employee is to complete all documentation as set down as required by the company
- Employee is to maintain all documents in a clean & Legible state
- Employee is to Ensure all documents are current
- Employee is to consult management on all issues
O.H.S & ENVIRONMENTAL
Create a safe environment for yourself and the client:
- Employee is to observe, implement and fulfil responsibilities under the relevant Acts and Regulations
- Employee is to be committed to providing and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace (vehicle and work practices)
- Employee is to take appropriate action to advise management of hazards identified to rectify them for prevention
- Employee is to ensure they participate in consultation with company representative regarding health, safety and environmental issues
- Employee is to perform work in a manner that is safe and without risks to health, in particular where equipment or work practices are introduced or altered.
LICENSING / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Human Services – Licensed Technician
This licence allows the holder to apply pesticides while employed by a registered pest control business, in the areas for which the licence is endorsed.
License Training Requirement
The technician’s are to participate in the companies training program on commencement A licence may be issued to persons who have completed the requirements under a trainee licence, or who have completed other approved training and passed the appropriate pest control licence test. A technician’s licence may carry more than one endorsement, dependant on training, experience and courses completed.
An inspection of a technician’s practical skills may be required at any time during the currency of the licence.
1. General Pest Control Training Asset Maintenance (Pest management – Technical) Basic licence Certificate II is required for trainees to conduct general pest control.
To gain the basic licence they must complete the following units: 1, 5, 6, 8, 19
Pestaway Australia requires all Technicians to complete units above to carry out general pest control
2. Termite Pest Control Training To gain a Termite Pest Control licence Technicians are to complete ; 1. General Pest Control Training And In addition to that basic training requirement Technicians are to complete the following units to gain a Termite licence Certificate III 9, 18, 10
Pestaway Australia requires all Technicians to complete all units identified within General and Termite Pest Control to carry out Termite pest control Licence Fee: The licence fee as set by the Department of Human Services (DHS) for a period of three years is to be paid by the employee.
If Units 8 & 10 are not included you will automatically be prevented from controlling termites in Victoria.
If a student fails or has an in depth knowledge and they have the required skills in the industry, they may elect to be workplace assessed. The assessment will be for four hours on site by a registered assessor working for NMIT. This assessment will be observed by an officer from Human Services - the cost as set by the Department of Human Services(DHS) , to be paid by the employee.
Classes of Pesticides: Arachnicides (Spiders), Coleopticides (Beetles & Weevils), Culicides (Mosquitoes), Termiticides (Timber Pests), Lepidopticides (Moths), Muscacides (Flies), Formicides (Ants, Wasps, Bees), Pulicides (Fleas), Rodenticides (Rodents), Blattacides (Cockroaches), Miticides (Mites), Avicides (Birds), Apicides (Bees), Vespicides (Wasps)
Company Policies and Procedures
PestAway requires Technicians to be proficient and follow Policies and Procedures by:
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Hold a current Victorian manual drivers licence.
- Pass the TAFE Pest Control Course set down and administered by DHS in conjunction with NMIT to gain a pest control license to use pesticides
- Reading and understanding daily job sheets
- Being Punctual and on time to job and customer premises
- completing inspections and maintaining Vehicle in a clean and safe state
- Maintaining and securing Fuel cards in a safe place to prevent loss & unauthorised use
- Maintaining and securing Mobile phone against loss & unauthorised use
- Presentation of self, attitude and task application
- Taking Annual leave at the appropriate time
- Ensuring collection and reconciliation of all monies for services carried out
- Maintaining and recording data within Service Pest Register books
- Following Safety procedures
- Payment of jobs
- Reporting all and any problems to office
- Reporting all and any pest infestation, additional pests and increases to office
The successful applicant is required to be reliable, well organized, well presented. Duties include working with ladders, in roof voids and sub floors. Full training, uniforms and manual vehicle supplied. 38 hour week.

All Technicians are required to attend the NMIT TAFE Pest Control Course to obtain a License to use Pesticides
Venue: NMIT Fairfield Campus – Yarra Bend Road Fairfield. Certificate III Pest Control:
- Covers all aspects of Pest Management
- Course duration: over 18 months
- 1st year: Tuesday night – 5.30pm – 9.00 p.m. for 40 weeks from Feb - Oct
- 2nd year: Thursday night 5.30pm – 9.00 pm 30 weeks from Feb - August
- 3-year License payable by the employee.
- Pestaway reimburse employee for all fees over a period of three years.
Hours of work
38 hour week. Mon-Tues-Wed- 8 hours Thurs 6 hours – Start and finish times will vary. Friday 8 hours.
