Brown-banded Cockroach Control
The brown-banded cockroach is comparatively small. Adults are pale brown in colour with very pale bands across thorax and abdomen. The female’s wings are considerably reduced, despite the fact that those of the male extend past the abdomen. Egg cases, which may have up to 18 eggs, are glues to surfaces, and the hatched nymphs require two to four months to develop into adults. Brownbanded cockroach adults commonly live for up to six months, through this time the female produces up to 13 egg cases, which ranges in length from 13 to 45 weeks. The brown-banded cockroach egg stage typically requires 37 to 103 days.
This cockroach has the potential to be an indoors pests, frequently infesting the dwelling parts of premises, as well as offices, hospitals, restaurants, storerooms and so forth. Brown-banded cockroaches are generally found infesting human dwellings. In contrast to the German cockroach (check this post for more information about German Cockroaches), however, its activity may be spread out throughout a building rather than being limited mainly to kitchen areas.
Egg cases (glued), nymphs and adults may be found in wardrobes, dressers and cabinets, pantries and closets, and behind bookshelves or wallpaper. They can also be discovered in electronic equipment or close to refrigerator motor housings. Brown-banded cockroaches can also hide from humans in a wide variety of locations such as clocks and picture frames. Brown-banded cockroach prefers warm temperatures and dry locations, but does not seem to need as much as moisture as the German cockroach. They are likely to avoid water sources and are more often noticed near the ceilings of infested homes. The brown-banded cockroach is notably active and may fly if disturbed or in warm conditions. Sightings of individuals during the day are not unusual.
